2016-2017 Season: Head and Assistant Coach Positions
Position Titles: Part-time Head Women’s Ice Hockey Coach and a Part-time Assistant Women’s Ice Hockey Coach
Location: Keene, NH
Purpose of Position: To serve as the part-time head women’s ice hockey coach for Keene State College’s Women’s Ice Hockey Club Team for the 2016-2017 season. To serve as the part-time assistant women’s ice hockey coach for Keene State College’s Women’s Ice Hockey Club Team for the 2016-2017 season.
Duties and Responsibilities: As a team sanctioned by the college, all applicants (for both the head coach and the assistant coach) will undergo a background check, performed by the college. Coaches will work with and support the members of the club. Coaches must be role models of good behavior and good sportsmanship at all times. Coaches must conduct themselves in a positive manner when dealing with players, opposing teams, coaches, and game officials. Coaches must abide by all respective league rules and (school and league) policies. Coaches must be recommended by a club and must renew their application to coach each academic year.
The head coach should have a strong hockey background. He/she will be responsible for attending both home and away games, and practices. At practices, the coach will prepare and drills to condition players and practice skills that accommodate the various abilities on the team. At games, the head coach will be on the bench managing changes, strategizing, and communicating with players.
The assistant coach should have a strong hockey background. He/she will support the head coach with coaching duties. He/she will be responsible for attending both home and away games, and practices. At practices, the assistant coach will be responsible for player development. At games, the assistant coach will be on the bench, working together with the head coach. Should the head coach be unavailable to attend a game or practice, the assistant will take responsibility for all the head coach’s duties.
Time Commitment: Part time, will require work on nights and weekends. Practices are one hour long, twice a week, at the brand new rink in town, in the evenings. All games are held on the weekends, occurring once or twice per weekend. The coach will be able to travel with the team on coach busses to away games. The team is in the Independent Women's Club Hockey League (IWCHL) and plays approximately 15 games per season, league and non-league (all in New England). The season will begin in mid-October (of 2016) and ends by the end of February (of 2017).
